The Ferguson Fire
On July 13th, 2018 at 9:36 in the evening the deadly Ferguson Fire begun. As it started at the Savage Trading Post in the Sierra National Forest it has spread over 91,502 acres. The fire has now threated Yosemite Valley to the point of immediate and mandatory evacuations due to loss of power, hazardous road conditions, and smoke. Going on day 25 with only 38% containment, the Ferguson fire continues to burn. Over 2,689 personnel have been continuously working hard and committed to suppressing and ending what is now known as the largest fire in the Sierra National Forest’s history. Stated by the U.S. National Forest Services, “there has been 2 fatalities, 11 injuries, and 10 structures destroyed.” Although, we are unaware of how this fire started, state officials have been updating the public daily and hourly for the most recent information on evacuations, road closures, and when it is safe to return back to civilians homes. Luckily, certain parts of Yosemite such as Tioga Pass, and Tuolumne Meadows campgrounds are still open to visitors as of today.
